Photographic Assignments

Why:  A monthly project to photograph based on a theme.  There are no cash prizes, no merits and no awards.  The purpose is to get your creative juices flowing; maybe to help you look at things around you in a different way.

HowA list will be published annually so that you can work ahead as you like.  If you feel super-creative that month, work ahead.  For those who need a goal to “shoot” towards, consider the G.R.P.P. meeting the following month as your “deadline”.  If you would like positive feedback, bring your assignment in on 8x10 or larger for our Masters to critique.  (Please note that the monthly critique is NOT limited to that month’s assignment.  This is just a convenient time to display your work.)

If there is interest, the assignment results may be posted on the G.R.P.P. web site.

 The assignments follow:

Topic

April

Study in Red (Library show)

May

Lines in Composition - Lines direct our attention, enhance and frame a subject and are such an integral part of a composition that we often don't consciously notice their effects.

June

By Candlelight - to provide a warm hue or tone, and connote intimacy, romance, and harmony

July

Tenderness - A child's hand in yours-what tenderness it arouses, what power it conjures. You are instantly the very touchstone of wisdom and strength.  Marjorie Holmes

August

Water - If there is magic on this planet, it is contained in water. Loren Eiseley

September

Portal - Windows and doors are portals between two separate worlds.  They can lead into a new and mysterious environment, or be the pathway to freedom and life.

October

Moving Camera - Let's forget the rule that says the camera must be steady, and experiment with the shapes and colours that come from movement. Let's not look for good or bad, let's try for pictures that move us.  The only rule is that the camera MUST be moving when the exposure is made. Post-processing can enhance the final result, but should not be the foundation of the image.

November

Reflections

December

Composites - Take an image with three or more combinations of these objects and adjectives:
Yellow ... Brick
Heavy .... Sad
Bottle ... Thick
Man ...... Cloth
Shoe ..... Fluttering
Sand ..... Rope

January

Excess - Moderation is a fatal thing. Nothing succeeds like excess.  Oscar Wilde

February

Library Show 2007

March

Diversity - There is strength in conformity; And in diversity alike; Things may appear different; But deep down they're all the same

April

Shadows - Shadows provide contrast between light and dark, and their shapes hold many mysteries to the eye.
